The Challenge

Tasks:
1.     Going through a hoop
a.     This is focusing on making sure our ROV is capable of moving around tight spaces on its own, and that we are able to control it well/
b.     We have to do this in 3 minutes
c.      This is worth 1 point for going through a hoop, and another for going back out of it.
d.     Restrictions: the hoops are only 23 inches in diameter, so our ROV can’t be too big to go through it
2.     Moving coral
a.     This is focusing on the ability to move one piece of something to another area. It would be useful in moving things into a confined space
b.     We have to do this in 4 minutes
c.      This is worth 1 point for each coral moved
d.     Restrictions: Each coral weighs approximately 40.30 grams, so our ROV has to be able to carry that.
3.     Collecting specimen
a.     This is focusing on the ability to collect data and evidence, and bring it back up successfully to the surface
b.     We have to do this in 4 minutes
c.      This is worth 2 points for each collected specimen (Schworoctopus)
d.     Restrictions: Each Schworoctopus weighs 58.14 grams
4.     Closing an oil cap to stop a spill
a.     This is focusing on our ROV being able to do things that humans would not be able to, like going into polluted water to fix an oil spill.
b.     We have to do this in 3 minutes
c.      It is worth 10 points
d.     Restrictions: the cap weighs over 200 grams.
